Is mental health literacy related to different types of coping? Comparing adolescents, young-adults and adults correlates

Introduction: Mental health literacy is associated with better mental outcomes and believed to improve the way people cope life challenges manage issues. Nevertheless, no study has yet empirically examined relationships between use of coping strategies. Aims: This aims describe levels (literacy about illness positive health) (coping styles) in adolescents, young-adults adults; To explore relationship each age group; compare if patterns significant correlations vary across groups. Methods: a cross-sectional / exploratory design study. We have collected online through paper-pencil method three developmental samples: adolescents aged 15-18 years old (N=240), 19-36 (74) adults 37-75 (N=105). Measures used were: Positive Health Questionnaire PosMHLitq (Maia de Carvalho et al., preparation) evaluate health; Literacy MHLq (Campos 2016; Dias 2018) Portuguese adaptation Brief Cope by Pais Ribeiro Tavares (2004) control styles. Results: Across groups, most styles are both well-being, but different correlation coping/literacy well-being/coping/literacy The Use Emotional Support only style significantly well-being adults. Conclusions: Future research should examine this findings longitudinal design.
